A more slice of life and mundane approach, hoping to do more like this to flesh out the characters more better. Amynta meets Archye for the first time as well.
I chosen to upload it today due to the fact it's the 10th Anniversary of when the Avengers first aired in here. So I'd figured this was the most fitting day for this.

“Oh crap! Nonononononononono!”
The humming whine of energy build up filled the cabin as it’s sole occupant raced forward. Amynta’s hand reached for the phone but quickly recoiled it with a gasp as she got zapped from the static. The whine increased as the static spread causing her fur to stand up on edge as she threw up a shielding spell. It stopped all of a sudden as the phone fizzed, popped once and a thin trail of smoke started to rise from it’s casing.
“SHIT!” she exclaimed. Dropping the spell she searched through the chest she had managed to pick up for a cheap price before slipping on some heavy rubber gloves. As she eyed the phone cautiously and crept towards it, one hand reached out to grab it, expecting some sort of residual static shock or heat but there was none. As the worry started to fade, even if she could hear the slight hum of static still, she attempted to turn the phone on. Nothing… the thing was dead as far as she could tell.
Letting out a sigh she placed it back on the crate, removed a glove and rubbed her face with her hand. ‘Guess phones are too complex for the energy of this thing compared to simple wiring and lights, at least they worked’ she thought. That part of the room was littered with some tools she picked up mixed with what usable ones she found in the shed, along with different components as she sighed a bit. She was sure that the crate would be able to power whatever device she could bring home, with some slight modifications that is like a shielding spell placed on cables and ports, her attention turning back to the lights stringed up around the interior of the room.
The phone she had figured that something could be done, if she swapped out some bits and pieces from other models or tablets, mostly stuff she had found after they been throw out or fished out of the garbage. Some cleaning and experimenting helped her find the circuits that could still be used. It looked promising and she was sure that the spells were in place to prevent any sort of feedback. This shouldn’t of happened as far as she could tell leaving her to scratch the side of her head. ‘Maybe I can find a repair shop, they could help. I’ll ask Mr. Riccon if he knows any or if I can do a quick search on his laptop if he doesn’t’ she thought, giving the phone another defeated tap on the blank screen.
Shaking her head she turned to pick up the wrist computer as she tapped on it’s screen, relieved as it turned on words scrolling across it before it settled on it’s default setting of a series of lines and circles. Another mystery she intended to crack to see just what this thing could do fully, but alas that would take time and right now she didn’t have much. Wait… time… Her head shot up as she glanced towards the clock, seeing that it was somewhat working but it looked like the batteries were affected by the discharge. ‘Crap!’ she slipped the device onto her wrist before activating it’s camouflage function before slipping her phone into her bag, placing the now fried and busted charger into a zip-lock bag she made sure her clothes, a simple T-shirt and some shorts, were fine as she headed out for work.
Closing the door behind her and she made sure the place was secure she turned around and faced the woods before taking in a deep breath. She only took one step onto the porch before she froze, the sound of shattering bulbs heard within her home and outside as she sighed. ‘Now that’s just being petty!’ With a shake of her head she hoisted her backpack onto her shoulders before beginning the walk into town.
Midday rolled around as the Archaeopteryx finished up one of the few repair jobs that remained in the store. Setting the game system aside she rolled herself over to the computer as she scanned through the worksheet to find the number for it. The only other jobs was a microwave that had been busted, a car that needed a tune up and a DVD player that some kid thought they could make pancakes in. Seriously, why did kids seem to think they can just stick anything into everything… at least her little girl knew better then to do that. Getting all the pancake batter out of the player was going to be a pain, maybe she can get one of her employees to handle it. Normally she would do it herself, but she didn’t want to miss lunch. Her little girl would be waiting for her.
After calling in and passing the player onto the employee, Archye made her way to the break-room. “Hiya Mommy!” came a young, strong British accented voice. The woman paused and smiled, her gaze falling on the young cat.
“Heya sweety, up for some lunch?” she asked, also in the same accent, walking over as she gave the girl a hug. That pink furred face lit up and beamed back at her with an eager nod of her head. Turning to the cupboards, Archye pulled out a tin of biscuits, two mugs, two tea bags along with some sugar before retrieving the milk from the fridge. As she waited for the jug to boil she had time to think, while the chance of becoming busy in the afternoon was still possible the jobs could be fairly simple and easy. ‘Who knows, might be able to catch up on one of my own projects’ she thought.
“A repair shop?”
“Yeah, do you happen to know any good ones Mr. Riccon?”
The boss leaned back in his chair, scratched his chin in thought. “Yeah, I think there’s one nearby. A few streets from here actually, ran by an Archaeopteryx if I recall. Been there a few times myself. Quick and friendly service...” he trailed off before nodding. “Yeah, I think it might be right, you did say it was just the phone right?”
“Yeah, just sort of fizzled and died on me” Amynta replied as she rubbed down the table, pausing as she sprayed more of the cleaner on it before starting to work on a rather stubborn spot. “I’ll probably head there after my shift, which I promise I’ll work just a bit longer then usual.” When she had afraid to the bakery she was running behind by 30 minutes or so. After she told the half truth about a mini power-surge that happened at her place, her boss seemed rather understanding if a tad disappointed that she was late.
“Perhaps a clock that isn’t digital could be good for a back up” he suggested with a small gesture of his hand to the analogue one on the wall.
“Yeah, been thinking about that… god damn, who the hell has coffee like this?!” she grumbled.
“Not sure, never saw the person before today. It might be a one time thing” Clark replied with a slight shrug.
“I may have to go get the bleach” the mare replied as she pushed back. The table itself was mostly spotless, even the stain ring had a small bit removed but not a lot. She honestly wish she knew some sort of spell or had a device that would be easier to clean it up. But then she paused, looking up at her boss as he went to greet a new costumer that came in, the thought was retracted as she let out a sigh. ‘One thing that does suck about having to maintain the secret identity thing’ Amynta thought, moving to the back of the store to get what she needed.
“Let me know if the bleach can get it out” he called out as she nodded in response.
‘I was right it seems’ Archye thought as she gave a wave to the owner of the game system. Turning back around she headed to her repair station/office, hoping to finish that DVD player now that the batter was removed. Although several parts had to be removed, too badly damaged by the ‘cooking attempt,’ it was one of the more cheaper options so it wouldn’t be that much of a hassle as she started to go through the parts in her office. Sure a couple of more items had come in to be repaired but she knew her staff would work hard to get them fixed.
The afternoon passed by at a fairly even pace as she stood up, stretched and went to get another component. Humming slightly she paused as one of her employees came in with something held in his hand. “New job just came in, seems to be a simple dead phone” he said as he passed it over to her.
Taking it she looked it over before giving the power button a press, though you don’t really bring in a phone if that was the problem. “Mmm, not charged?” she asked
“That was my thought, but well… here’s the charger.”
The plastic bag was placed in front of her as she stared at it with flabbergasted. “H...how does a charger get like that?!” she asked, placing the phone down before she picked up the bag.
“Beats me, she mentioned something about a power surge… but I’m not entirely sure how THAT happens due to one.”
“Unless it was an extremely high voltage me either” she replied and frowned in confusion, far as she could tell there wasn’t any massive power surges anywhere in the city, none that were reported anyway. She brushed the thought aside, ‘A mystery to figure at another time’, as she turned her attention back towards the phone. Flipping it over so the screen faced the table, she removed the cover and just stared in surprise at the mess lied within.
Amynta stood waiting as she glanced around the shop, this part of it wasn’t all that big. Parts and repaired stuff lined the wall for sale. Honestly didn’t seem that bad, there was a little waiting room off to the side. She had gone in to check it out, seeing a TV playing some channel, some magazines and old newspapers, it didn’t really hold her attention much this time as she went back to the front of the store. As she browsed the parts that were on sale she took down a mental list of prices and what was here, she might come back actually.
“How the heck did this happen?”
The mare almost ended up dropping a graphics card as she looked up, her attention drawn to the counter. A bird like woman, an Archaeopteryx she was sure, stood there, light blue feathers covering the majority of what could be seen sides white feathers that travelled down on her front starting from the neck. Three large, dull yellow feathers stuck out on top of her head among long white hair. Purple eyes locked onto Amynta, as she started to walk closer.
“Did you bring it in?” the other woman said.
“Ah, yeah I did, honestly I’m not sure why it stopped working...”
“Might be due to this mess inside” Archye replied, her tone dropping down as she turned and showed the Frankenstein job inside the casing. “Had to remove the battery, it wouldn’t be any good now” she sighed, looking down at the phone. “Mind telling me how this even happened? And I highly doubt it was cause of a power surge.”
“Well...” Amynta paused as she tried to figure out what to say. She couldn’t reveal her true purpose of tinkering with it, not fully at least maybe she could twist the truth somewhat. “Well, I was trying to customise the phone with what I found laying around. Internet helped somewhat, but I don’t think I did a very good job as evidence shows.”
Archye thought for a moment, moving the phone around in her hand slightly, she could understand where she was coming from. “I get it. I’ve got nothing against do it yourself customisations. Hell, I do it myself. But well, the problem here is the fact you SOMEHOW put in parts that wouldn’t even work with this model” she replied as she looked back up. “Come here I’ll show you” she beckoned the other woman closer.
Standing in front of her Amynta's attention went back down to the phone as she got a good look at burn marks along the inside. The smell of acidity smoke also hung around the device and Archye for that matter. “The casing and this main part here, it’s a Quadwell made phone. But it’s these other bits here” she paused pointing out a few, “Are from different phone companies. Heck, this one here is from a phone that hasn’t been made since the 90s, it shouldn’t even be possible to make it compatible with a smart phone. And this… this is from a Solstice brand tablet, it shouldn’t even be used in this set up.” She sighed as she ran her hand over her face and slicking the head feathers back before they sprung back up.
“But you can fix it can’t you?”
“That’s the million dollar question isn’t it?” Archye said with a slight smile. “I’m sure I can, it’s not as bad as some others I’ve seen. Though the configuration is a bit weird, but it should be easy to sort out. As long as there are no other surprises, I swear that battery was so messed up, it was literally swollen to the point when I got this open it sprung out. Gave me a scare, that’s for sure” she added with a nervous chuckle.
‘That might explain that noise I heard’ Amynta thought. “So, should I stick around or?”
“I’m not sure, I’ll need to track down some of the parts. Shouldn’t be that hard, Quadwell is known for having cheap mass produced phones. I would say, depending on just what the extension of these modifications is, to come back in a couple days. Or I could drop a message with someone close to you” she said as she put the phone down and pulled out a pen and paper.
“Oh, you can just contact my work, it’s only a couple of blocks away. Riccon’s Bakery.”
“Yeah, I do know the place” Archye said with a nod and a thoughtful look. “Shouldn’t be a problem, just let your boss know that there might be a message in the next few days.”
“Alright, I’ll shall see you soon hopefully. And hopefully this will not end up costing me an arm and a leg” Amytna said with a chuckle.
“Just try to be careful if you do decide to do anything more like this. Or if you come here, let us know in case there are any surprises lurking within” Archye replied with an amused smile.
“Name’s Amynta by the way. Sorry, should of given that earlier, though I gave it to the other guy.”
Archye just waved her hand dismissively, “It’s understandable. And the name’s Archye, though that’s kind of obvious going with the neon sign.”
“Heh, did figure on that” Amynta replied with an amused smile of her own. “Well, in that case I’ll shall be back in a couple of days.”
With that she gave a small bow of her head before she turned around and headed back out the door. While the shop owner was left looking at the phone, picked it up and walked back to her station to start working on untangling this mess.
