He is a courageous man with a muscular body like a bodybuilder, so I felt it would be a shame to cover his whole body with armor, which would not show off his physical beauty. So I made him fitted clothing for his upper arms and thighs.

As I was drawing, I was curious about the protrusion that stuck out from the side of the sword's hilt. I heard that this protrusion had a protective effect when his hand was slashed in battle. Oh, I see.

I have not drawn much Western armor in the past, but I think I did a good job with this armor. I live in Japan, so I have a lot of references of samurai armor. However, I have less references of Western armor, so I had more difficulty than when I drew Samurai armor.

The spiky shield seems to have existed in the Middle Ages. They were used in one-on-one duels, and were used not only for defense, but also as a weapon to stab the enemy with the upper and lower spikes to defeat him.

Both in the West and in Japan, weapons and armors for actual combat use have various devices for offensive and defensive purposes, and they are really rational and functional. Armors are not only cool and beautiful. Armors are filled with various wisdom of people in the past, and the more I know about them, the more interesting they are.
