As much as I felt like I already had enough characters, this fella just spoke to me! I was immediately drawn to his colors and patterning. It made me think of a slightly imposing and stern shaman. So that is where I chose to take inspiration for what little backstory I have for him so far!
His name is a very slight simplification of the old Norse “Örlendr” for the sake of ease of typing haha. The name means “outsider”, “foreigner” or “stranger”, which I felt suited his imposing and stoic demeaner. I took a little inspiration from the particular old Norse school of thought that witchcraft or shamanism was more feminine, and not usually practiced by men. My thought was that since he is related to / practices Shamanism, that he may have been ostracized from whatever society he was a part of. Now I imagine him to have taken residence in the deep recesses of an old forest to be closer to nature, and farther from those that shunned him (hence the name and the more, for lack of a better term, feral appearance). Perhaps he now involves himself with more forbidden or taboo magics without the societal pressures placed on him anymore. He is still very much a work in progress. I hope to elaborate on his story through art in the future!
