This reminds me of the old George of the Jungle movie when he hears the term "dog eat dog world" and says he wont bring his dog to San Francisco (His dog is an elephant.)

The most important thing is that you can't turn your back to them, or you can consider yourself good and fucked. Cougars are solitary ambush predators, so it's always safest to stay in open, well-lit areas with lots of people around. Most apex predators prefer weak prey, but a cougar knows that she can easily take you, and she won't hesitate to go after even the strongest, youngest victim she see the moment an opportunity presents itself. If you survive a cougar attack, be sure to disinfect all scratches and bites, and get to the doctor's office ASAP for a broad-spectrum antibiotic.
