Ira Sisserou came from poor beginnings in her home country knowing how some of those lesser nations have citizens in poverty or corrupt politicians. Not wanting to spend her life in poverty or see her family and friends live like that she attempted to join a mercenary group at a young age because she thought that if she served the government in some way, she might become set for the rest of her life and no longer have to worry about low financial income.
She was turned away at first seeing as how despite her pleas and begging to join, her voice usually didn’t sound a hundred percent sincere. She came off as less committed and more like somebody else was insisting she go into this type of field. Plus, she was still only in her mid-teens. And so, the recruiters dismissed her as just one of those teenagers that didn’t know what they were looking for in life and which way to turn.
Trying to look for ways to keep her body active should she ever get the chance to prove herself, she would often go out hiking while carrying rocks and other heavy objects. While wandering past a local park one morning, she noticed a group of older people doing some sort of meditative practices before suddenly breaking out into what looked like a rather painful dance session. Eventually, she summed up the courage to ask one of them what they were doing. It turned out to be the martial art known as capoeira.
For the next several months, Ira practiced capoeira and started to excel at it at a surprisingly fast rate. In addition to becoming both a skilled fighter and dancer, this group consisted of diverse tongues, ranging from English, French, Creole and a bit of Spanish, allowing the parrot to become bilingual.
As she exercised more, a tougher attitude began to take shape inside of her. Eventually, she was given the opportunity to try and prove herself that she was worth having on board. She was able to catch the attention of an antillean fruit-eating bat who put her to work at testing her reflexes and aim. Given that the army of Dominica was small and was years behind most first world countries industrially, Ira appeared to be quite skillful at throwing darts and knives and ultimately hitting their mark. Suddenly, she recognized one of the recruiters from years earlier that had turned her down. They recognized her, too. She was concerned that she would be shoved out again, but instead, the recruiter remarked that she was actually showing a willingness to commit to such a tough line of work.
After a few years more of training, building up muscle mass and carrying out assigned tasks to near flawlessness, Ira was promoted to becoming a soldier. This meant a great deal to Ida, not because she had proven herself to them, but more because she knew this meant she and her family would not be living in less than ideal conditions anymore.
Although she did manage to get enough earnings to lift herself and her family up to a better lifestyle, overtime, she learned a great deal of discipline and learned that there’s a much greater responsibility and commitment to her line of work that merely ensuring one’s own finances. No moment better exemplified that moment more than when her island nation and other surrounding neighbors like St. Lucia and the Virgin Islands became intended targets of a hostile Haitian military dictatorship that had invaded and decimated the Dominican Republic. Even though the entire island of the Hispaniola was under an iron boot, this regime had ambitions to unite the Caribbean under their rule.
Oddly enough, this dictatorship might not have been able to become such a dangerous threat had it not been for a gullible American and Brazilian administration that bought into the statement that Haiti was struggling desperately to defeat Cuban and Venezuelan socialist forces in its own nation. While it was true that they were struggling with those forces domestically, the extent to which it was was woefully exaggerated. Unfortunately, eager to combat any impending communism or fascism, the current United States administration and Brazil foolishly gave Haiti’s new corrupt administration several million dollars and reals worth of weaponry, which the regime then used to conquer the Dominican Republic.
Further outrage was sparked when the authoritarian leader began sending goons to the nearby Virgin Islands. Realizing these totalitarian oligarchs had no intention of halting, island nations such as St. Lucia, Grenada, Jamaica, Barbados and Antigua & Barbuda entered the fray ready to defend each other and save the innocent Hispaniolans from their tyrannical warlords with Dominica quickly joining in to protect the Caribbean.
The war ended up being short and swift, lasting a matter of months. Haiti’s horrific political leaders were captured or killed during the raids. While the experience may have been the thrill of a lifetime to some, to Ira, it was an epiphany. She was undeniably proud to have served her nation and aided its allies. No paycheck, no matter how much it was worth, could fill her with the pride, humility, satisfaction and dignity that she felt for having been a part of this. Her family had also never been so proud of her as they were now, despite the fact that they had always loved her unconditionally.
As peace returned to the Caribbean, Ira’s work hours hit a steep decline. But only very briefly. She took up a part-time job instructing students who had aspirations of serving in the line of duty when they got older, and found another part-time job as a fitness coach. As gratifying as fighting in that war was, Ira was really happy to return home and embrace the ambiance of the lush green vibrant rainforests and the roaring ocean waves of blue. She doesn’t intend to serve as a mercenary for most of her adult life and would like to spend much of her adult life in peace and quiet, she has great respect for those who do. But if things ever get to that point, Ira Sisserou is willing to put her life on the line to stand against tyranny.
During her time as an instructor and coach, Ira showed her patriotism by always wearing a new national flag bikini wherever she was. The top was reminiscent of the era of when Dominica was a British colony and the bottom depicted the flag the country adopted after achieving its independence. While she would definitely be regarded by some as eye-candy for her subjects given that she was standing before adolescents revealing most of her figure in the flesh, Ira elected to show off as much of her body as possible as a means of teaching students visually. The parrot would always exercise alongside her disciples as she showed them how each practice was done and permitted them to observe her exposed muscular physique in order to see which joints were pumping to indicate exactly which specific muscles were receiving the biggest workout.
At some point, Ira was approached by a Caribbean edutainment production for series of collaborative projects between neighboring countries as a means of establishing improved relations. The series themselves would not be overtly political like many insufferable propaganda content almost always is, but instead some would be about history between the regions of the globe and others (like the ones that Ira would be taking part in) would be opportunities for the actors involved to get to meet and even travel to other places and meet other people. Ira was contacted to star in a collection of aerobics and exercise movies since word had gotten out of her background serving in the military and being a fitness instructor afterwards. Ira thought about the proposal and promptly agreed to it a few days later with some eager enthusiasm. Her enthusiasm only increased when she was introduced to a pair of hired athletic assistants that would be starring alongside her and would occasionally takeover for her. One of them was Arawa Versilucia, an Amazona Versicolor, also known as the St. Lucian parrot. The other one was Guilda Garifuna, an Amazona Guildingi, commonly known as the Vincent parrot. Ira, the Amazona Imperalis (Sisserou parrot), would be the lead instructor. The film series would ultimately become known as The Amazona Avians’ Athletics Exercise n’ Entertainment Expo.
I got this wonderful work of art from
Cinnameana right before she left for a trip to Australia. I’m amazed at how it looks this good considering how fast it was completed.
