Atlantic Eastern Air Lines, Inc. (AEA), traded as Atlantic Eastern (IATA: AE, ICAO: AEA, Call sign: ATLANTIC EASTERN), is a major American airline headquartered in Denver, Colorado. As of 2025, it is the world's eighth-largest airline when measured by number of passengers carried, and the seventh-largest by fleet size and revenue passenger miles. It is one of the five legacy carriers operating in the United States, collectively referred to as the "Big Five" alongside FlyUS, Zeta Air Lines, Union Airlines, and SouthJet Airlines.
History
Atlantic Eastern Air Lines traces its origins to the merger of Atlantic Airways and Eastern Air Lines in late 1991. The two legacy carriers completed their consolidation in early 1992, forming one of the largest airline companies in the United States at the time. The newly created Atlantic Eastern Air Lines commenced operations with its first commercial flight on April 15, 1992, using a combined fleet and route network from the former Atlantic and Eastern airlines.
In its early years, Atlantic Eastern faced significant financial turbulence due to the effects of the airline industry crisis caused by the Gulf War. The company struggled with high operating costs, declining demand, and intense competition from low-cost carriers. However, under the leadership of CEO David Hare, Atlantic Eastern managed to restructure its operations and regain profitability by the late 1990s. A key part of the airline's turnaround strategy involved the modernization of its fleet, the expansion of its route network with a focus on international long-haul services, and cost-cutting measures including staff reductions and increased operational efficiency.
Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Atlantic Eastern continued to grow and solidify its position as one of the major carriers in the United States. The airline expanded its presence in key markets, formed strategic partnerships with other airlines through codeshare agreements, and invested in upgrading its in-flight services and amenities.
Corporate Affairs
Atlantic Eastern's corporate headquarters and main operational base is located in Denver, Colorado, employing over 35,000 staff as of 2025. The airline has a strong presence across the United States, with major hubs at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, Denver International Airport, O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Destinations
As of September 2025, Atlantic Eastern offers over 5,000 daily flights to 295 destinations across 48 countries spanning six continents. The airline's route network is heavily focused on the Americas, with extensive coverage in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. Atlantic Eastern also operates numerous long-haul routes to Europe, Asia, and Oceania from its major hubs.
Fleet
As of September 2025, the Atlantic Eastern mainline fleet consists of 718 aircraft, making it one of the largest commercial fleets in the world. The airline operates a fleet comprising the Boeing 737 Next Generation (737-700/800/900ER), 757, 767, 777 (777-200ER/300ER) and 787 (787-8/9) families, the Airbus A319, A320ceo/neo, A321ceo/neo, A330 (A330-200/300) and A350 (A350-900) families, McDonnell Douglas MD-90 Advanced (MD-90-70/80/90), MD-100 (MD-100-2000/3000), MD-12 (MD-12-10/20), MD-15 (MD-15-1000/2000), and the Embraer E400 Minuano.
Atlantic Eastern has plans to simplify and modernize its fleet by phasing out older aircraft like the 757s and introducing newer models like the MD-100 and 787-10 by the end of the decade. This will allow the airline to operate a more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly fleet while reducing maintenance costs.
In addition to the mainline fleet, the airline's regional subsidiary Atlantic Eastern Hop operates a fleet of smaller regional jets like the Embraer E-175 and Bombardier CRJ-900 on short-haul and feeder routes. Atlantic Eastern Cargo (AEC), the freight subsidiary, operates dedicated cargo routes to Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean using a fleet of Airbus A320P2F, Boeing 767-300F, 777F, and McDonnell Douglas MD-12-10F aircraft.

I remember reading an older submission about Atlantic Eastern Air Lines (it's been deleted), which said the airline also operates the following aircraft but they are not in the fleet list above:
- ATR 72
- Airbus A330-200
- Airbus A330-300
- Airbus A330-800
- Airbus A330-900
- Boeing 747-400ER
- Mitsubishi SpaceJet
I plan to have some of my characters work for this airline. I service the A319, A320 A321 in real life, as I'm a ramp agent.
