This is the front of a piece of eight that I found in my collection. That's right, it's pure silver and the date clearly reads '1800'. I'm not shitting you.

Lol, sorry. x3
But, I have several silver coins, from as early as 1800 (yes, the year, not the century) and, due to silver being a soft metal like gold, they're mixed in with copper. If that coin was "pure" silver, you wouldn't even be able to see the year of the coin, let alone any other features, and the edge of the coin probably would've been worn down to just an estranged, tiny silver disk.

Well, if you know something about coins, which is something I've never been able to dabble into but apparently my entire family has done, I have a coin here that is very strange. On the front is the seated liberty, the year is 1883, and the words 'United States of America' are up above Liberty around the edges. On the other side is something that looks like an ornate R wrapped with another equally ornate T wrapped within yet another equally ornate C that runs horizontally while the R and the T run vertically. Around the edges is a pressed border that that runs exactly along the borders, which seems to me to have been done in the mint, rather than one of those little coin things in an amusement park. I can't find anything, but the closest I can get is a Liberty Dime or Half-Dime, but none of the obverse's match.
Could you post a picture of this coin for me? This might be something worthwhile to take a look at.
Is it just the "RTC" in big bold letters that take up the entire face of the reverse or is that just a fancy mintmark? And another thing help me figure it out (if I can) is to take a look at the edge. If it's just one solid color, i.e. like most silver US coinage, it's silver (excluding the nickle), if it's two different colours, i.e. silver on one half and silver on the bottom half, then that'd be copper clad in nickle, also known as a "Johnson Sandwich", which has no intrinsic value.
Another test is to take a nickle (preferably) and hold it in your hand, take that other coin and hold both of them at different angles against the light. If both are just plain nickle, they'll appear dull and be the same color, but if the other coin is silver, it'll appear "white" and shiny, and it'll stand out more brilliantly than the nickle. If you need an idea of what I'm talking about, due the same I described with the Spanish piece of eight and an ordinary US coin like a nickle.
Sorry if I wasted your time or intelligence. Most people don't know what silver is or what it's like so I have to show 'em how to figure it out in coinage and jewelry and such.
And yes, I'm a big coin nerd.

I posted a picture. Yeah, I'm more of a gun and cars man, but, I try to do whatever I can just to have experience with things. I've begun to start with theater, cameras, watches, clothes, etc, etc. I just want to try to know a little bit of everything, which I've begun to do over the years. But, anyways, I can't find any pictures of the coin anywhere, so, if somebody on here can help me, that would be great.
