They usually chirp when they are in distress or annoyed or both. Being annoyed can be distress for a chipmunk. LOL. There was one in my backyard that apparently wasn't too pleased where a certain bird was sitting. Rather demanding if you ask me. The bird was harmless.

LOL I heard the other one chirping back, so I joked to my boyfriend that they were arguing about the ending of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (something we often argue about). xD

I don't know what the other chipper did to make this one so angry. x3

and the original model... the Sciurus granatensis, the Nueva Granada squirrel (Nueva Granada, The New Granada, was the name by which our country and neighbor territories were during the Spanich colonization)

They are really big squirrels, easily 10-15% bigger than a red squirrel. Though in the picture it's not so easily seen, their tails have a red-orange wide band more or less at nid-length.
