The Volerans, knowing they were facing genocide, built 2 prototype deep space carrier/colony ships, having planned to build 100 more of these giant ships to evacuate Volera within a 150 year timespan, <Volerans are extremely long lived compared to humans and very slow breeders> hoping to save thier people from the dreaded alien insect race. Each of these massive ships had a capacity to ferry and sustain 4,500 passengers, 100 crew and 500 on board military protective forces.

No other ships of this line ever reached completion, and neither prototype ever ferried it's intended cargo.

The insectoid invaders arrived 5 years later, many many years ahead of the anticipated time frame. Volera saw them coming, and despite several days of violent defensive fighting was unable to hold the alien planetary assault vessel back, even after ramming the alien craft with one of the two prototype super carriers in the desperate hopes of delaying the alien warship for even a few days. It failed.

Volera was destyroyed. The few ships that survived the devastation, including the one surviving super carrier, fled to join up with the few remaining Voleran Defense Fleet vessels.
