Photo taken by my dad...I think I was about 5? The grosbeak had stunned itself against a window and when it came to, it still allowed me to hold it in my hands :)

How adorable. I hope he recovered from that smack, he was probably still a little dazed at that point. You guys being around kept him safe form predators though, we had a bird smack into the window at the college, I stuck him under a bush and stuck around doing homework until he flew off.
I had a similar experience once, only with a hummingbird. Thought the little guy was a goner until I turned it over in my hand, and it suddenly opened its eyes. Another minute or two, and it finally jumped up and hovered a moment. "Tweep, tweep!" *whirrrrrrr* and away it flew.
