BNSF EMD GP9u #1680
At the museum is another diesel, one that's a bit more modern than #2301.
This loco had a LOT of numbers in it's life. Starting off as AT&AF #742 when it was built by EMD in 1957, then #2942 in 1970 when rebuilt, then #2296 in 1980, before finally becoming BNSF #1680 in 1999.
At some point, this diesel experienced frame damage from a wreck and had many of it's parts be stripped to mend the other engines. After everything serviceable was removed, 1680 was donated to the museum.
Quite the sad ending for an engine that could have done so much more in it's life. But at least now others can still enjoy it, even in the sorry state it's in now.
