Gena the Crocodile! My friend had me watch a Cheburashka, some russian stop-motion series of little films, last night and I absolutely loved it. This character Gena was especially interesting: his job is to strip naked and display himself to the public (he works as a crocodile in the zoo), can build just about anything out of wood except for birdhouses, has the strength to pull ANCHORS OFF OF BOATS, and loves to be friends with little children. (Gena himself is 50, I think.) He is also musical and likes to sing and play the accordion.

So yeah. Pretty cool character, if not a little on the pedo side. (at one point he wants to clear out a small, dark building so he can make a playroom for some little kids, no joke.)
But in all honesty it was an amazing series and if you haven't seen it, watch it. It's collectively like 70 minutes long. There's some books that were made first but I haven't read them.
Art is mine.
Character belongs to Eduard Uspensky.

Super adorable... gotta love any crocodile who can play the concertina. :3
Dunno if you know about this, but there's a new series being produced in Japan by Toho: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-EL3NRspnQ

According to what I've been able to piece together, there's a new series of 26 3-minute animated episodes, called "Cheburashka arere?" (a bunch of them are on Youtube), and also a feature film (that's the stop motion one) that came out in 2010 and seems to be a remake of the original 1960s movie. I've looked all over for a DVD release, but so far all I've found is a movie poster for sale.
