The void is a strange place. Unknown and unknowable, even some of the eldest and strongest dragons cannot fully understand it- for it is always changing, always growing. One could spend a millennia digging deep into the inner workings of this realm and be no closer to understanding it- for it is limitless.

The void is dangerous. Corrupting. Lesser beings are unable to encounter it and survive, nothing it touches is the same any longer. The very concept of it is enough to drive many mad, for it can not be comprehended.

This beast is no dragon, but a spirit that slipped free of the void and took the form of one. It absorbs energy, because it is a being made up of exotic void energies. It defines itself by the energy it keeps trapped in its body, but as you can see by the light coming off it, it is always leaking said energy. Losing energy makes the being feel like it is dying, and so it consumes what it can find. For now only consumes heat, flowing electricity, more common and relatively "mundane" energy. But, as it always ends up consuming more energy than it had lost, the baseline for what it considers satisfactory always rises. And so it cycles, and slowly the lump sum of energy that this thing holds rises and rises.

As that baseline rises, its influence over the natural world does too.

Soon it can take energy directly out of flame. Then eventually it doesn't need flame, and can pull the energy directly out from between chemical bonds. Reducing almost any material, even living creatures, to a base-chemical ash by a touch. Soon, atomic energy, and eventually it might be able to consume a star like it is little but a morsel.

This being is one of the lesser and more easily conceptualized spirits that slipped free of the void realm.
