The world has ended. Life for Kuro still continues.
The air has become so polluted; filled with so many toxins, that the planet can no longer sustain any form of life. With no one left, all synthetic beings have also ceased to operate. Kuro's biggest fear has now become a reality: He is permanently alone.
Over time, Kuro learned that he could control how much of his body the stygian suit covered up. For a more casual setting, he would have the suit simply cover his wrist, while he dressed in attire that was appropriate for the time period. For more intense situations, such as when he would do mercenary work, he would have the suit cover most of his body. As long as any portion of his body was in contact with the suit, the aging process would cease. If the suit sensed any form of danger coming towards any part of Kuro, it would automatically protect that part of his body to prevent any damage from being done. In the worlds current state, removal of the suit would lead to a quick death. Because of this, the suit now embraces Kuro's entire body, forbidding the dragon from controlling it; no longer allowing his true self to be seen again.
The loneliness has become unbearable for Kuro. He still keeps his memento of Shiro close, reminding him of the happiest moments of his life. However, those memories are quickly replaced with the realization that he now spends the rest of eternity wandering a lifeless planet. His only companion now is the stygian suit that holds him tightly and keeps him warm and protected every single second of every single day. Nothing will ever change.

Now thinking about it, this piece reminds me a lot about Porky from the EarthBound games. Unable to die and wandering space for eternity as he is protected by an indestructible capsule. I think there is no more cruel fate than just living on, losing all the people one cherishes. Life is also beautiful and worth living because of death, so that every moment is invaluable and worth experiencing when you think about it.
Beautiful piece, you already know I'm fond of the background on this one ! And Shiro's feather is a particularly touching detail.

I have never played Earthbound before, but it definitely sounds like both Porky and Kuro are going through the same thing.
Maybe I will try the game out sometime. I have been meaning to at some point.
I think Royz definitely did a great job on the environment with this one as well.
Kuro will keep the feather by his side forever. His memories of Shiro are something he never wants to lose. ^^
