Percy's Ghostly Trick (All Engines Go! Adaptation)
Over the course of a few months, All Engines Go! has grown on me. While it'll obviously never hold a candle to the original, It's not the worst thing in the world. And it's certainly nowhere near as harmful to children as Teen Titans Go! or other reboots like it are.
That said, I wondered one day what a classic story would feel like if it were to take place in the AEG-verse. So I took one of my favorite RWS stories (Ghost Train) and adapted it to fit into the AEG-verse. After a bit, I decided I'd post it here. Hope you enjoy!
Percy's Ghostly Trick
_______________________________________________
(Fade to a foggy night. A whistle is heard, and an engine rolls along the track.)
Voice: And every year, on the night of the accident, it runs again. Plunging into the gap, shrieking like a lost soul..."
(Fades to Tidmouth Sheds at dusk, Percy is on the turntable telling a story to Thomas, Kana, and Nia. Diesel rolls in)
Diesel: Percy, what are you talking about?
Percy: The ghost train, Edward saw it last night.
Thomas, Nia, Kana, and Diesel: where?
Percy: He didn't say, but it must have been on our railway. He also said that ghost trains run "As a warning to others". *shudders* It makes my wheels wobble just thinking about it.
Diesel: Ha, you're just a silly little scaredy engine Percy! I'm not afraid of a ghost.
(Diesel rolls away with a couple trucks)
(cuts to Percy with Edward at knapford)
Percy: Diesel didn't believe in your ghost.
Edward: Neither do I, it was just a pretend ghost story.
Percy: Oh...
Edward: Though strange things have happened.
Percy: So there really are ghosts?
Edward: Possibly. Though we may never know...
Percy: Huh...
(Fades to night, Percy has pulled a train of stone trucks to Brendam docks.)
Percy: Phew, that's the last of them. I'd better head home.
(Cut to a small montage of Percy travelling down the line.)
(Meanwhile, Sam the farmer and his horse are taking a load of flour in an old cart.)
Sam: Best be careful on the crossing there.
(They go over the crossing, but the bumping causes one of the cart's axles to break.)
Sam: Oh bother. Well, looks like we'd better go back to the farm to get help. I hope an engine doesn't come along while we're gone.
(Sam unhitches the horse, and they ride back in the direction they came.)
(Cut to Percy heading towards the crossing.)
Percy: What a beautiful night, the rails are humming, the signal lights shine green, a cart's on the tracks in front of me and- A CART?!
(Percy tries to stop, but crashes into the cart, sending it flying and covering himself in flour.)
Percy: Oh no! I can't see! AHHH!
(Percy runs away screaming until he bumps into Toby)
Toby: What in tarnation?!
Percy: Oh, sorry Toby, I couldn't see you.
Toby: I can see that.
(Toby wipes the flour covering Percy's eyes)
Percy: Much better.
Toby: What happened to ya? Yer white all ovar.
Percy: I crashed into a cart of flour at the crossing.
Toby: And ah'm willing to bet my brass bell I know who's cart it was. I told Sam that ol' thing needed replacin', but would he listen? *Sighs* Well, you'd best get yourself cleaned up now, little Percy, or folks 'round here'll think you're a ghost.
Percy: A ghost... Oh, how about we pretend i'm a ghost and scare Diesel? That'll teach him to say i'm a silly little scaredy engine!
Toby: Oh did he now? *Chuckles* Alright Percy, count me in. So what's the plan?
(Percy explains it to Toby as the camera pans up to the night sky, then transitions to Tidmouth Sheds. Thomas, Nia, and Diesel are there.)
(Toby hurries in)
Toby: Percy's had an accident!
Thomas: Oh no!
Nia: Poor Percy, I hope he's alright!
Diesel: Great, I'll be late with my evening train..."
(Thomas and Nia glare at him, Toby continues.)
Toby: They've cleared the line for yas, but there's somethin' worse.
Nia: What could be worse than having an accident?
(Toby looks visibly nervous.)
Toby: Ah've just seen somethin'... It looked like percy's ghost. It s-said it was c-comin' hare t-to warn us...
(Thomas and Nia look frightened, but Diesel isn't.)
Diesel: Who cares? Don't be scared you guys, I'll show that ghost a thing or two.
Thomas: Let's hide in the sheds, the ghost won't find us there.
Toby: Good idea.
(Thomas, Toby, and Nia hide in the sheds and shut the doors behind them, Diesel decides to follow suit)
(Fades to another view of Tidmouth Sheds, Percy approaches the shed and lets out a wheesh.)
Percy: Peep peeep... Peeep peep peep peeeeep...
Diesel (whispers): Oh no it's him!
Percy: Little trains, Little trains... Let me in... Let me iiiiinnn...
Toby: No no! Not by the smoke on my chimny chim chim!
Percy: Then I'll chuff... And I'll puff... And I'll break your door in, oooohhhh...
(Percy pushes the shed doors apart and puffs in.)
Diesel: Hey, what time is it?! Oh dear, I'm late, I'd better get my train! Aaaahhhh!
(Diesel hurries out of the shed and into the night.)
(Toby and Percy begin laughing.)
Toby: Oh boy! You we're raght Percy, that was priceless!
Thomas: Huh?
Percy: It's ok Thomas, I'm not really a ghost. I only pretended I was to scare Diesel.
Toby: Percy told me 'bout what Diesel said to him, and I thought I'd help him get a lil' payback.
Thomas: Well you certainly scared him.
(The engines continue laughing as the camera pans to the sky.)
(The sky fades from night to day before panning down to Knapford Station. Toby, Thomas, and Nia are sitting on different tracks. Diesel rolls in.)
Toby: There ya are Diesel, where'd you head off to last night? The others said you never came back.
Diesel: Uhh, well... I knew you guys would be sad about Percy, and I didn't want to be a bother, so I slept in the freight shed and-
(Percy's whistle is heard.)
Diesel: Oh, sorry, can't stop. Gotta get some cars from the docks.
(Diesel hurries away, Percy pulls into his spot shortly after.)
Percy: what do you think of that?
Toby: *chuckles* anyone woulda thunk thit our Diesel had just seen a GHOST...
