Eh doesn't seem like a strong enough cause, it's either you use it or don't and not using their service is honestly the best route. Strike isn't gonna do shit.

Etsy has a monopoly on the handmade arts online marketplace, so many people don't have the ability to move to a different service without a severe impact on their income. Demanding better treatment from a company who directly makes its money from us sellers isn't unreasonable. Whether it works or not, we at least have to try. Nothing changes if you don't at least try.

Fair enough but I feel a simpler route is to create your own online art store, maybe have an ebay page, or just sell directly using sites like this. Screw having a middle man. A monopoly can only exist if there's no competition.

A lot of people do use those options alongside having an Etsy store. The main problem with those options though is discoverability is low compared to a specialized marketplace like Etsy. It's nearly impossible to find an artist's independent website's store if you don't already know about the artist. Ebay is bloated with overseas factory wholesellers that clog up search results with cheap stuff, a problem that Etsy is starting to have an is one of the things we're striking about. It's not possible to sell online without having a middleman, because someone has to process your transactions. For people who don't have storefronts and just send invoices through paypal... well, that site has a whole other slew of problems...
So yeah... we're just hoping that maybe we can generate enough bad press for Etsy to pressure them into at least not raising fees again. Whether it will work or not, we'll see I guess.
