I’ll admit, I don’t have a lot of experience playing Sonic games. I liked the Megamix Collection for Gamecube as a kid, but was never very good at it. I’ve played partially through Sonic Mania, and while an excellent game, I just think Sonic might not be my thing (something about the insane speed makes me feel like I’m missing half the level). The only Sonic game I’ve actually beaten was, of all things, Sonic Chronicles. Not a very good game, but it was my first introduction to some of the characters, including Big! He wasn’t my favorite, but I always liked him; he was a big (heh) cuddly kitty, and a total sweetheart! You can imagine my surprise when I found out people didn’t like him; I get it after seeing his gameplay in Adventure, but I still feel bad for him. It’s not his fault the developers decided to make a bunch of fishing levels in an action game!
I’m delighted that Big’s showing up more often, and that he seems to be getting more popular; especially after seeing TheRunawayGuys play as him in Adventure, and the pure insanity that ensued! (Seriously, when else has the phrase “I did it, Froggy! I won the old man award!” been uttered?) I’m pretty sure this is the first picture of Big hypnotized; hopefully this is the start of that changing!
Big wandered alone through the Mystic Ruins, fishing rod in hand and frog nowhere in sight. Froggy felt like swimming today, so he was going down a river to a nearby pond; his feline friend was meeting him there, ready to spend another day fishing. Big had been worried; Froggy seemed to go missing a lot. So to make sure Big could find his pollywog pal, Froggy had bitten down on the fishercat’s lure, leaving a trail of fishing line. Big had been following it, untangling the line from rocks and trees for a while. It was strange, though; he didn’t think he was close to the river anymore. Had Froggy gotten lost?
Big heard rustling in the trees, and looked up. The cat called for Froggy, but a snake came down instead. Big was curious; was the snake’s name also Froggy? And had he seen the frog Froggy?
The confused snake replied; his name was Kaa. If Froggy was the frog with the fishing line, he was likely down the river; Kaa had tried to say hello, and accidentally frightened the frog, who accidentally dropped the lure as he hopped through the forest in a panic. Kaa had followed, trying to say he was sorry, but Froggy had dived under the water and swam away. After that, Kaa had followed the fishing line to find whoever was on the other end. If he wanted, he could help Big look?
Big agreed, and the two set off, striking up a friendly conversation as they walked. Kaa had experience fishing as well, though he’d never needed a rod. Big was curious how he caught fish, and Kaa chuckled; he’d be happy to show him.
Big cocked his head in confusion as Kaa’s eyes began to swirl. Ring after ring of bright and pretty colors went through the snake’s eyes. They felt nice to look at, but Big had to ask: how did that help catch fish?
Kaa sputtered, nearly blinking in surprise; how was he-
Kaa recovered quickly; telling Big how the colors were relaxing, making the fish’s struggles cease. The trick was, he had to maintain eye contact, the closer the better. He’d show Big; all he needed to do was sit back and enjoy the colors!
The cat agreed, eager to learn, and Kaa leaned in close, nearly nose-to-nose with him.
Big purred as the pretty colors filled his vision, a smile creeping up on his face as Kaa spoke. The snake told him how good he was doing, how he could just relax and let the pools of color wash over him as he stared into their depths.
Big asked; did the fish go to him because they saw the colors and thought Kaa’s eyes were pools of better water?
What?!
Kaa stared at the cat in disbelief. Off the wall question aside, how was he not hypnotized?! He didn’t even seem to be resisting; was he immune somehow?
No, that couldn’t be it. He was definitely happy and relaxed; maybe some direction was necessary?
He’d give it one last try.
…Yes, he said. That was exactly how his eyes worked. It was impressive how quickly Big had figured that out; no one had ever given him that response before. He felt like that deserved a prize; how did a massage sound?
Big thought that sounded nice; he’d never had one before.
Kaa smirked; he was definitely going to enjoy this.
Coil after coil slowly wrapped around the cat, lovingly squeezing and stroking his body. Big could only moan in happiness, the tail scratching behind his ear and the colors in Kaa’s eyes only adding to the pleasure. The snake leaned in closer, and soon, colors were all the cat could see, Kaa’s voice all he could hear. The snake said he could see how much Big was enjoying himself, how clever the cat was to trust him, how Big was so open to new ideas.
Big beamed, his eyes wide, his pupils shrinking to pinpricks as his tail swished behind him; he’d never been called clever before!
Kaa chuckled, telling Big how that would be changing soon. Big was about to ask why, but the snake’s tail slipped down his body, and the cat was cut off with a gasp of delight. Kaa continued, his voice and colors flooding the cat’s mind: how Big was a good and clever kitty, how good kitties got to feel this good all the time, how Big was clever to leave his thoughts and will with the snake he trusted, his master. How Big would be a sweet, spiral-eyed and obedient pet, his head full of colors and commands. How he’d do anything for his master – gather food, protect, entertain, talk, anything – and his master would give him all the love, coils and colors he could ever want.
Big nodded frantically, his mouth hanging open, his eyes spinning with spirals; he wanted, needed to obey Master. He’d never felt so good, so loved; he wanted to be Master’s pet!
Kaa gave him a loving squeeze, and with a PING! and a yowl of ecstasy, Big broke into the widest grin he’d ever made.
Kaa sighed in relief; he had no idea Big was this mentally resilient; he’d gotten his hypnosis to work on machines without much effort, how was a random cat so difficult to entrance? He was putting in a trigger first thing; a struggle was fun once in a while, but this had been ridiculous!
Still, he’d say it had been worth it. Big was cute, cuddly, warm, and incredibly strong; combine that with him living alone in a forest (not counting Froggy), and he was perfect as a pet and for bringing more. Those cute friends of his were certainly a nice bonus…
Kaa chuckled as his pet purred, looking up at him with adoring, spiral-filled eyes. He was going to have fun training him (and Froggy, when the amphibian found them; the fishing rod had been dropped nearby, and the trail still remained, Froggy’d find them eventually).
But for now, he had a cat to cuddle.
