Rhinelander Hodag
I spent Friday and Saturday up in Rhinelander Wisconsin, home of the Hodag.
The Hodag is one of Wisconsin's Cryptid's (Like the Beast of Bray Road, Bigfoot and Mud Lake monster) But 99.99% sure, the Hodag is just a fire side story created. Allegedly the angry spirit of deceased Oxen that were abused by the loggers in Northern Wisconsin . Often described as a greenish, scaled creature with spikes along its back, massive fangs and difficult to kill. Theres a photo taken in the early 1890s where one was 'confronted' and it clearly looks fake. And a story of a live one captured in the 1890s and put on public display. Witnesses described it as the size of large dog and rather vicious.
But it put Rhinelander on the map, the Hodag is everywhere on display, even the towns police cars have it on the doors of their patrol vehicles and the fire department has it on their doors as well. The High School sports teams are called the Hodags and each summer, the Hodag-Fest happens with live concerts and a carnival like atmosphere.
A TV/film maker crew called 'Small Town Monsters' did a hour long documentary on the beast. But even likely being just 'balloon juice' , it ties the town together and proudly for its own cryptid mascot .
This is the largest Hodag in Rhinelander, off Highway 8, at the towns Welcome Center, theres another 25-35 scattered about the town as statues, paintings and sculptures.
Though even the hotel staff, admitted, its just likely a great story, there were reports and a recording of Sasquatch calls in the woods north of the town just a few weeks ago. That they do believe in more exists.

Rather interesting story behind this critter.
My Mom used to live not far from there, in Oconto county, I loved visiting her, particularly the fishing!
Sure they weren't big, but my Mom would fillet the panfish, dip them in butter and flour, and fry them up in an iron skillet, yum yum!

I ran off a group of Jehovah's Witlesses about 40 years ago. They had just parked in my living room! I walked in with my brother's Corgi snarling under my arm. He wanted to get down and meet and greet, but they didn't know that and he sounded like an angry meat grinder. I gave them ten seconds to be gone and the managed in four...
Oh they have the Nisse, the Huldre and others beside the Trolls. Trolls are the biggest of the Nordic supernaturals. Biggest ones don't move much, end up covered in dirt and trees. Theodor Kittelsen did some neat art of them in the late 19th century and early 20th century https://www.berfrois.com/2012/08/ki.....elsens-trolls/ Kittelsen also did some neat anthro art too.
