"'Oops!?' Vat do you mean 'oops!?' Vat is this 'oops!?' Dumpfbacke! Was in der Hölle ist mit dir falsch...!?"
As a general rule, when Ritsuko tells you not to touch anything in her lab, she means it. And yes, that means you too, Misato. :-P

(For those who don't know the TV show, these characters are, from left to right, Rei Ayanami, Misato Katsuragi, and Asuka Langley-Soryu. Asuka and Rei are teenagers who pilot giant robots, and Misato is their commanding officer. Ritsuko is the technology genius on the show, and doesn't appear in this picture. Neither does the main character of the series, Shinji: The Eva girls are just more fun to draw than he is.)
In total, this is about 40-50 hours, I think. This is "mixed media" because although 98% of the time was spent on vector art, there are a few non-vector-ish additions, like the purple "poof" coming from the bottle, and that's enough to make it "mixed media" instead of pure vector art. Everything else is vector art, though, including all the fuzzy shiny areas on their skin, the background, and the shadows. You can see the development process of it here: my works-in-progress gallery.
I'm actually not that big a fan of this show, but the characters are cute and fun to draw, so here they are. I think, though, that with this, I've finally gotten the Eva bug out of my system, so you probably won't see me do any more pictures of them after this.
Well, anyway, enjoy!

Oh, and for those who are curious, yes, Asuka is half-German, and grew up in Germany, and she tends to switch to speaking German when she gets really angry. Her words above are translated: "'Oops!?' What do you mean 'oops!?' What does 'oops' mean!? Dumbass! What the hell is wrong with you...!?" Goodness only knows what she said after that; that's about the point where I stopped the tape recorder ^^;

My fiancée and I sat down last night and rewatched the first eight episodes (she was seeing the series for the first time). She liked the series, but every time Shinji started to get angsty, she wanted to reach for the fast-forward button. Thing is... she has no idea how much worse it'll get by the end of the series.
I learned yesterday that Hideaki Anno, the writer/director of Eva, wrote the story as a metaphor for the problems he'd had with clinical depression. This explains a [i]lot[i], I think, and why all of the characters seem to be bipolar (or, in Rei's case, just polar).

If you think the first eight eppisodes are bad...wait till you get to the last two (I think)...
Gainax ran out of money for the series by the end, so the last eppisodes were quickly made and make little to no sense...lots of psychobabble and stuff that makes you go "wait...wtf?"...Fans didn't like it, so Anno went and made 'End of Evangleion' as the true end of the series. I'm not gonna ruin it for you, but it's pretty much a slap in the face for anyone who hated the end of the series and sent him letters about it (even death threats! Which he included in the movie)
I love EVA, but more for the actual EVAs and the Angels...the kids are annoying and the adults all have problems...

I saw the whole series about seven years ago, including End of Evangelion, and I think it's the worst ending on a series since Matrix Reloaded. It's blatantly obvious that they started running out of money at episode 14, and were completely flat broke by episode 22. Which is a shame: Anno had enough good ideas that with a budget, he might've been able to pull something out of the series. But after I watched that ending, I didn't ever want to see the series again.
My fiancée's been poking at me to watch it again, though, since I started this drawing, because she'd never seen it: And now we've watched up through and including episode 14, and I remember why I liked part of it; but I also remember how far downhill it's about to go in the next few episodes. I've been warning her... but... well... the only way to know how bad it ends is to see it for yourself.
Personally, I like the character designs more than anything else: The art style is very pretty, and the girls are very cute. The battles are fun, and they're the only thing that keeps you from being totally bored with the plot, but mainly, I like the series for its art: I personally think the Evas and Angels are pretty much your typical generic giant robots :-/

lol
Technicly, The EVAs aren't robots...They are really giant humanoids who lack their own free will. They are covered with the armor to make them look like robots, and to keep them restricted and under the control of the pilot...I know too much about EVA...srsly
My favorite EVA is actually the mass production one. I just found that 'sock puppet/beluga whale' head so amusing and different. And they had wings, which was so cool. Favorite battle scene has to be EVA-02 Vs. the EVAseries in EoE...lol

I know what they are, and how Shinji's mother and Asuka's mother were involved in their development too: As I said, I've seen the entire series. But, well, looks like a giant robot, smells like a giant robot, acts like a giant robot, so for all practical purposes, might as well be a giant robot.
If I had to choose between them, I'd pick Eva: Gundam (in just about all its incarnations) bores the heck out of me and is too stereotypically angsty for my tastes. Eva has its fare share of angst too, but the characters are at least three-dimensional, and the plot, while weird as heck, is at least interesting.
I'm really glad you liked it, Tuffyt! Eva's not my most-favorite series out there, but the girls in it are so cute that they almost beg to be drawn :D
By the way, I know I haven't said it, but I've been a little worried about you over the past few months since your husband left you; you were all bright and upbeat here before that, and afterward, when you were around here at all, you were pretty dark and depressed, and that last journal entry is about as bad a downer as it gets. So I'm really glad to hear your voice here, for one thing, and I'm glad that something I drew made you feel good too.
And if you feel inspired, please draw; it's good for you! (And good for those of us who +watch you too.)

Well, come back soon, okay? I miss seeing neat stuff showing up in your gallery every few days. I know life's thrown you a pretty nasty curveball, but you can get through it, and I think art can help. It's a good outlet for all the feelings and thoughts you can't readily express any other way. Give it a try: Even if you're not drawing your spider girls, just a little doodling every once in a while may make you feel better.
It might not seem like it, but that's one of the reasons I draw: Life's going pretty good for me these days, but it's gone bad in the past, and the art helps me get through it.

COOL, didn'y knew Asuka is half-german, thanks for that info. Curious, does she, in the show, sometime speak Germans? If yes, then I must have missed it somewhere, beside, I never knew what Germans sounds like, only what Russians sound like, thanks for the movies, but never understood what they say, ROFL, now some Japanese Language I understand in both reading and sound, thanks for Ghost in the Shell anime show and some movies, especially Mr. Baseball starring Tom Selleck, some Japanese language I can say, only simple ones, ehem, a few bad ones that is. Nice pics keep up the good work!
Uh, the fact that Asuka is half-German is a minor plot point. She only mentions it, oh, like almost every episode. And any time she gets angry or emotional she tends to revert to German. And she speaks with a German accent. Other than that, and the fact that the entire first episode with her centers on her coming from Germany, no, they never mention it ;)
