I'm a little late to update so we are getting kind of a double shot today. Page 178 is up on the websites already.
IT'S MORPHIN' TIME! Cap gets into costume and right into trouble. Why does the costume transfer work but the regular cell phone doesn't. I'll explain later I promise.
FYI, coming up with a reason why the person in trouble can't call for immediate help via cell-phone is one of the more challenging obstacles for writers of horror movies these days. A person simply can't be put into a helpless situation as easily these days. Watch some more recent movies and you'll see how the ways the writer destroys the cell phone or its signal becomes such an issue.

Better horror movies make the person on the other end disbelieving, helpless, or outright useless. (I've called 911 on an emergency only to have to give my name and number because they thought I was crank calling. I wasn't.)
Also, Hell Hound picked possibly the worst member to square off against...

Yeah, the whole "disbelieving" thing is actually quite believable, and it's amazing the stories I've heard about 911 operators). To my knowledge, a fair number of horror movies take place either in the middle of nowhere (where the signal would be weak, non-existant, or it would take too much time to get there), or the person doesn't know exactly where they are. Sure, someone on the other end can trace the call, but not the 911 operator, and they have to believe you to transfer you over to someone that can actually help. That, and scenarios that either have the phone lost, broken, or go on the fritz can still be reasonable if done right, and not because "it's a horror movie we can't have them calling for help."
As for the strip, of course Hell Hound tangles with the demon. I can only imagine the property damage those two are likely to cause (him on purpose, her on accident). Still, the last panel would explain the difference as to one works and the other doesn't; Blaster Maser is likely only blocking radio and similar signals. The costume changer, being essentially a matter transporter built into the phone, definately uses something completely different for a "signal", that isn't being blocked.
And the matchups so far are:
Aquarious vs Ghoul
Capricorn vs Hell Hound
Libra vs Saurus? (That "match" ended rather quickly, so Libra might be squaring off against someone else)
The question is, who's next? On to the next page!

If I may offer a suggestion, perhaps the teleportation signal is on a different wavelength than the typical cell phone carrier wave. It stands to reason if Cancer could create an eleborate teleportation device, he could create it with a phased temporal inducer so it could operate in all conditions in all areas (even worldwide if need be). Cell phone signals are all not the same. Good example of this is where I live now. An AT&T cell phone won't work here but a Trac-Fone does. Go figure.
Just a thought, but feel free to use this idea if you like, I love this comic SO much I don't want to see something minor like a possible plot hole spoil the fun for everyone!

Stephen King wrote a zombie novel not long ago in which cell phones were the problem (appropriately titled Cell), but that's all on a bit of a tangent ^_^;
Now, I forget whether I asked you this earlier: but did Alistair from V for Vendetta help inspire Hell Hound at all? (I forget Alistair's last name, but he was the head Scottish gangster in that story... wasn't included in the movie version at all, as far as I can recall.)
