Lataro-nar, a dragon unsuccessfully animated from the remains of various bones and old skins. Inside it is empty.
Lives in an old, gloomy Temple that is hidden by the darkness of the high mountains. A creature of the dead, a servant of the netherworld, the world of shadows. Can pass through shadow and visit other worlds and different times.
Hates his appearance, which makes him avoid mirrors. On the tail two rows of sharp blades. Very lightweight because of the brow flies and walks almost silently
To keep his body alive, he devours the souls of mortal creatures. With each new soul, he gains their memory and knowledge. When the soul is absorbed, it turns into a haze, and to return it to the host body, the soul eater must be killed, but it's not so easy and so far no one has succeeded. He is a very friendly and peaceful creature, always ready to share knowledge and shelter a traveler, if he will share his knowledge and of course will not spoil and steal from the Temple.

People eventually caught on that the dragon gained the knowledge and experiences of the souls he consumed, and to some, that looked much like an afterlife. It was lone travelers at first, the occasional visitor who offered themselves to the dragon, and who's going to turn down a meal that delivers itself? Later, it was couples, families, and eventually processions that grew ever larger and more elaborate. Lataro-nar found himself the center of attention, and all positive attention for a change, as people at the end of their lives came to say a final goodbye to their loved ones and then become one with him.
When he wasn't playing host to bittersweet goodbyes, he had a fairly regular stream of visitors seeking audience with him, or rather the memories of those he'd absorbed. They ranged from the expected loved ones wanting conversation with the one they'd lost to people wanting mundane information like the whereabouts of a lost possession or forgotten person the he now had knowledge of. Then there was that one fellow, very strange even for a human. He claimed to be a long lost grandson of one of his souls and wanted to know things like the name of his first pet, where he went to middle school, his birthday, the make and model of his first wagon. Asked those and a few more like it, then left looking satisfied.
I thought of this from the description you included with the image and couldn't resist sharing. I don't know his canon. How would he react to suddenly being treated like a celebrity, or perhaps even a god?

He would have reacted calmly, but he picked a different place. He doesn't like strangers coming into the house and tries to hide his whereabouts. And the time is difficult to choose, he almost always walks somewhere, looking for something, studying, carrying knowledge to other worlds and get new ones.
He also collects various magical artifacts, and if he finds any worthy ones, he gives them the one he thinks is appropriate.
In one of the worlds, in a small tribe, he is worshipped and passed down from generation to generation the memory of the once frightening but wise creature.
