Drew this in class while my design teach spoke like a lover about the ruddy pen tool in Photoshop.
We dedicated it to him, he did not like it.
…..Should have used the pen tool.

Its different for everyone’s tastes of course ^^ I feel the lines generated by pen tools look too obvious, too clean cut and boring. But that’s because I like a slightly more organic look to lines :) A tip if ever you did wish to ink with a tablet is make sure the pressure is a little harder than normal, set your brush to around 80% opacity and zoom in close to what your doing. Drawing quickly twice over a line will give it a rather smooth solid look when you zoom back out ^^
I tried explaining that to a friend, but the only way I could put it was 'it looks too perfect!' Haha. Yeah, I definitely know what you're talking about.
Thanks so much for the advice! Whenever I do tablet lineart I tend not to zoom in really close. I'll give what you said a try the next time I ink something!

Pen tool can be quite useful, for stuff with straight lines (which I can't draw freehand for peas) or really long lines that need to be smooth. I used it all the time in some of my old cartoony drawings just for things like reaaaally long tails I just couldn't get right with a tablet.
You can also draw things in Illustrator and then bring them into a 3D program and have it extrude the shape. The pen in Illustrator is quite superior to the spline tool in 3DS max for making like, actual accurate shapes. Like ice skate blades.
It's a bitch to learn but in the end you'll be glad you did, just for its niche uses. Really. <3
