Yes this is cake. The "road" was cleaned up before presented, but it looks cool.
Only the base, antenna, and pieces to hold on the mirrors (hidden) are uneatable.
It was a birthday present.

Yes, under the "road' is a board and super-glued to the road and cake board (under the cake itself) are 5 dowels, one behind each wheel and a thicker one in the center. The tires are resting against the cake board with toothpicks in the board.
Yes, it is buttercream with fondant extras. I attempted to "spray paint" (available at a cake shop) buttercream and will NEVER do that again. The few recipes of buttercream that I use are my signature.

you don't like painting the butter? I have no problem with it, I went ahead and got the air compressor and all to it. However, I still have to teach myself to make the butter itself, I'm so used to using the premade buckets at my store. One of my bosses makes it though, and it is better when it's homemade.
please do tell, does the fondant taste better then butter, or in your opinion, worse? do you make that yerself as well? I've heard that it tastes bad, or somewhat odd and bitter/chemically

The buttercream (bc, as I put it in my notes), was just not taking well to being colored (I didn't color it before applying it to the cake). I "dirty frosted" it and then added a bit more to smooth out and then attempted to color it.
I would love to play with the cake decorator stuff, but the tools are a bit expensive and my budget doesn't allow for it...yet. I find the premade buckets of bc are too sweet and not a good consistency for me to use, and I love making it from scratch (though my kitchen dislikes the mess of powdered sugar).
Fondant to me is tasteless and thick. I love bc, but I also make a few types: regular, chocolate, and "hint of lemon". I have found multiple kinds-
-the pre-made, pre-colored stuff that I found difficult to work with and difficult to use (far too dry),
-the tub of pre-made fluffy white, that's what I used for the Dobie cake I made, some people have said this tastes kinda like the outside of a marshmallow,
-and the powder of fondant to be made at home. I have yet to use this, and am slightly apprehensive to use it.
Any other questions?

mmmm nopes that answers them :3
I had to save up for the pump, really though if you can find a cheap air compressor from any machine shop all you need is a head, those are about 80$ and then the color itself from Kopykake. I had to save up half and use the other half as a christmas present from hubby to actually get mine.
How long does the BC last once you make it if kept in tight container? Walmart large buckets last me nearly a year without spoiling, I've been thinking of keeping it in that but I don't want to make that much if it don't last that long. Maybe only halfway that much. The Walmart buckets seal really well, ants can't get in it. Too thick, and too tight. Trust me on that, they get in everything else BUT those buckets! Though you have to sit on them to get them closed XD
