An owl in the ICU, result of getting hit by a car.
Nothing is broken but he does have head trauma and what we're hoping isn't permanent eye damage. He's regaining vision in his good eye and this picture was taken on Friday which was the first day he actually opened the bad one.
So yea, we had to hand feed him and I managed to get this picture of him...
Mostly it's just creepy when he looks at you. We'll give him time to see if he'll recover from his injuries, some head trauma birds recover some don't.
--
My boss sent me a text message on Saturday extremely excited that he was able to locate and eat his food on his own without us putting it to his mouth.
--
He's all we have in ICU besides a Turkey Vulture with a broken wing now. The Peregrine I posted a few weeks ago is in the rehab area outside (SHE CAN FLY) and the Barn Owl we had in ICU for 2 months wasn't showing any signs his broken bone would ever fuse so we had to end his pain.

With one eye? No, i don't think they'd be able too very well. We did have 1 come in who's eye was messed up which we thought was from the car accident he was in but according to the vet only the broken leg was his injury and the eye had been healed the way it was for a long while. Not sure if it impaired his vision but he was well fed when he came in so we know he was hunting.
It was the same eye actually.

If his eye doesn't heal he couldn't go back to the wild.

Yeah, I thought so. Poor little bugger. Hopefully he'll get better. The owl you linked reminds me of David Bowie, who to my knowledge was clocked on the side of the head with a baseball bat and his pupil went nova on him.
I'm sorry to hear about your barn owl, too. Was the the one with the crooked wing doing the threat pose you posted a while back? I found a crow when I was a kid with a nasty break and it came to the same end, although I think the rescue center we brought it to didn't really want to help it because it wasn't a beautiful songbird.
