I really dig this guy’s design and concept! There’s never enough enormous, voracious insect (and arachnid) monster OCs! Bonus points for being a locust!

Out of curiosity, with his size, limited flight, and maw (mandibles and such), if he were to live on his own means in a forest, what would his diet consist of regarding wildlife species? How much of them would he need to sate him for a course meal? And *if* for bigger animals (particularly the snarly sort), what methods would he use to catch/grab them? :3c

And would he be able to do the latter without the use of neurotoxin?

Yeah I imagine he would be pretty opportunistic, hunting whatever is available to him (even unfortunately hikers or locals 👀) in terms of how much I FEAR for the ecosystem xD locusts aren't exactly known for their respect haha but despite his appetite he can go a while without food if he needs to!
His hide is pretty tough so getting bitten/scratched even by larger carnivores isn't usually going to cause a whole lot of damage ^^ not impenetrable by any means though x3

He would use a mix of teeth claws and his general HEFT (ramming, using his tail etc) to incapacitate and kill larger stuff! But also using his neurotoxics in his saliva certainly helps for longer fights if he gets some bites in, wearing them down over a period of time!!:D

How many wolves could Xarvax fit in his stomach at a time before digesting them, whether they be swallowed whole, or chewed? And how long would it take for Xarvax to digest whole wolves that would be cramped in his stomach? :3c

And you totally made sense! I always love learning and talking about bug giant, voracious OCs! Would you by any chance have any more of them in your character roster, whether they be giant insects and/or arachnids? I would be more than happy to know about them if so! C:

Well his stomach is certainly very stretchy >:3 but he also has a sort of "throat pouch" which is sort of similar to a bird's crop. For storing food hes not ready to digest yet~ i do have a little anatomy thing in the works actually >:D i reckon he could easily manage most if not an entire wolf pack in one sitting, though hes belly would be so heavy he'd have to find somewhere quiet to digest in peace~ He generally prefers to swallow whole but depends how aggressive the prey is, the most aggressive the prey the higher the chance its gonna end up torn apart before being eaten >:3 i would imagine would take a good week or so to finish digesting them x3

I’m definitely loving Xarvax more and more for that! Not only him being an enormous, voracious insectoid (complete with mandibles, wings, and especially a massive addomen that I assume stores his prey!) who acts as a companion, there’s also generally always something about that type of insectoid snacking on grey wolves (whether by swallowing them whole by dragging them in head-first with the mandibles before digesting them alive inside that big abdomen, or snatching a wolf with its legs before flying off with it in its mandibles to eat it in a mountainous area) that makes them personally all the more favourable to me~ <3
