I might have seen the past lives thing coming and I wasn't surprised about the revelation that their deficits are there because of said past lives but the whole thing plays out completeley different then what I thought. I was expecting her to just be able to leave (with her guardian) and the water place thing to be a red herring for either the reader or the other characters.
The burning snowflake thing makes me feel really sorry for our striped fluffy friend
I kinda hope Disma is a deceiver of some sort, or at least overblowing or misrepresenting the actual facts.

A bit refreshing to hear Ka say all this stuff out loud even if she is feeling out of place and like some monster to her best friend. Burning snowflake, because regular snowflakes were not fleeting enough :D. Probably feels good to disclose all these things finally. Much nuzzling.

Maybe the Elesians want to keep Ka away from the sea to keep her from becoming to powerful. Or remembering something that could hurt the others. Maybe they just told her that it would be the end for her if she went to the sea to stop her. gods have lied for less.

She didnt remeber her last life, as we dont remeber the lifes of our ansestors shoud we carry something we didnt do or we dont know?
