One thing I'm glad has been phased out is that in the early AC games if you talked to a villager sometimes they would just nab an item from you without giving you the chance to say no, then give you a paltry sum of cash or a shitty item in trade.
You'd just lose out on some nice item you had on-hand when some villager decided to steal it from you. And you couldn't even go to the cops.
