For all the powerful demons in existence, there is still those who are not blessed with the overwhelming strength demons are known for. It is these sorry souls that must suffer in inferiority and obscurity, being nothing more than playthings for their betters. Most lose their minds and become empty husks, putting up no further resistance. Even death is a gift they cannot get, for demons here reform should the meet such a fate. So they are cursed for all eternity to live lives of nothingness...
But even among the weakest, one of unbreakable will can rise up and take what they desire.
Of the many aquatic demons existed one, tiny, truly pathetic one. The sahagin like demon that once did not even have the privilege to have a name. Like many others similar to him, his only existence was one of subjugation, bullying, and suffering. The demons above him used him for whatever they pleased. More than many times was he killed on a whim, only to reform and continue his life of suffering. He tried all he could to resist such a fate, tried to fight back, but it was for naught. His demonic form was simply to weak to ever allow him to seize his own fate.
However, through all the ages of suffering, he was never broken. His jealousy and hatred for those who tortured him grew and grew and eventually he decided to play smarter. With enough experience in the demonic realm, he was usually able to get around undetected, where he began to gain knowledge. He searched for a way he could transcend the limitations he was cursed to live with. Anything to give him an edge. Eventually, he did indeed find his answer.
While his body could never muster up the power he needed on it's own, he could very well find a way to steal it from others, forcibly expanding his power. The knowledge he gained allowed him to construct a simple looking but powerful staff that would grant his desires. When it was set, he quickly tested it on the first victims he could find. What happened was even more than he expected.
Perhaps due to his inexperience and overenthusiasm, he staff not only took the power of the demons he targeted, it obliterated them altogether, taking their souls into him. With this, he discovered he could inflict more suffering than they ever did to him. He could deny them rebirth. By consuming their souls, they would never be free to be reborn. More than delighted with this, he set off to continue his killing spree. He decided to take on a name, something his victims would learn to fear. He took the name Phovv, which in a very rare and unknown language only known to his specific demonic species means something along the lines of "vengeful tide".
Phovv showed very little mercy or restraint. His extreme jealousy and anger fueled him to continue taking power from any who thought themselves superior to him. His form bloated heavily as his enormous gut held all the souls he had stolen, with the rest of his body eventually changing to match his new size. Several times, he consumed so rapidly that the souls threatened to break out of his ballooned form. But his will was so unshakeable that he always remained in power and subdued any resistance from within. Eventually, none ever attempted to fight back.
At this point, Phovv definitely made a name for himself. A creature once so small and pathetic and risen so far purely through his rabid envy. A tale quite amusing to the demon king Felnir. The dragon overlord specifically wanted his Sin Lords to be being heavily empowered by their vice, and Phovv was a perfect example of it. Felnir invited Phovv to be his Lord of Envy, with the promise of and endless supply of power and souls to make his own. Phovv accepted, somewhat honored that his efforts had brought him so far.
Felnir always kept an eye on this aquatic lord. Though Phovv was definitely the weakest of his Sin Lords, he is quite ambitious. While Phovv could never hope to usurp the king, the very attempt would make Felnir look bad. So he continued to allow Phovv to do as he pleased and offered his fair share of the bounties of the king's conquests. Phovv would never truly be satisfied, as it is with the vice of Envy, but he surely is in a much better place now than he was long ago.
Here's the 5th one! I wanted to make a character that was a bit more bottom heavy focused (kind of motivated by the assylum demon in dark souls) and a demon lord that uses a weapon, this one being a big hardy staff.
Many thanks to m4wie
