The Dwarfs of Svartalfheim are not what many would expect them to be. First, their most noticeable trait; large, rounded ears. A byproduct of their original Fae ancestry perhaps, having lost their pointed ears. But just because they are not naturally inclined to magic doesn't mean that they cannot perform the practice. Dwarfs can live for 100s of years, with their elders expected to live to their 500s, maybe older if they're careful. That's plenty of time for them to learn the mystical arts.
For example, Madison is part of an order of Druids, Dwarfs who study magic by deciphering the laws of nature in order to bend the elements to their own desires. Such Dwarfs are capable of converging with various Spirits, most noticeably the 4 Elements that form the basic elements: Gnome especially, the Spirit of Earth, Salamander of Fire, Sylph of Wind, and Undyne of Water.
Despite the stereotype from other realms, the Dwarfs of Svartalfheim have heights comparable to humans. Their skin complexions seem to never become fairer than what most would consider a light tan, where as more rich, brown complexions are more common. Hair colors and eye colors are typically comparable to what you'd see from Humans, with their darker colors being more common. For instance, while Madison's blue eyes are considerably rare, they're fairly possible.
Lastly, Dwarfs are known for their beards across the realms. It's commonly understood that Dwarfs, even their women, have beards. This is a stereotype propagated by the Elves (at least in this realm). When men reach their early teens (which, for Dwarfs, is their mid 20s), they begin to sprout what most would call 'whiskers'. These early years are when Dwarfs begin to form their personal identities. Older Dwarfs think that plucking even one strand of hair from a Dwarf's chin is a punishable offense, while other Dwarfs have no qualms cutting their beards int he quest of styling them.
