Partially religion but MOSTLY Alder is a war machine, they need a constant flux of citizens ready to join up the military. It is a military kingdom after all, so the military is very prestigious in their culture, but even more frowned upon than simple civilians. As it's assumed it will impact their ability to wage war as effectively.
Nobles are somewhat exempt from this if they keep it on the down-low. As even the queen has same-sex consorts from time to time (Eliza and Alphonse have kind of an open marriage, Eliza is bisexual herself).
Mixed race couples (Like Dahaki/Fera, Dahaki/Avion,Avion/Fera) are also really frowned upon and equally taboo. There is some weird hierarchial stuff going on.
