Things is, while I'm not really a fan of Kyler, I get where he's coming from. Of course he knew Joel wouldn't give them away. But at the same time Kyler needs to make sure there is never a single doubt about both himself and Joel. If that means acting like a dick to protect them both then so be it. But yeah he should have told him about Rourke. I that's what Joel is mostly upset about.
Kylar has a long history of twisting the truth and jumping through hoops to appear a certain way. He really wants to be a valued member of society so he will bend his behavior to fit that, kind of a hero complex in a way. Joel in contrast just wants a simple quiet life.. though he entered the relationship already knowing how messed up things were. Kylar is married but separated from his wife and has a high-profile in their society. He's like a mini-celebrity.
There is much more to Marylyn and Kylar's marriage though not yet explained here, but let's just say he's still kind of twisting and lying about certain things and has some hang ups with his wife.
