One wrong turn while hiking in the woods had Eric sinking deep into some sticky brown quicksand.
He trudged forward as his grey boots sank into the wet earth, ignorantly thinking that the mud would only be a few inches deep.
Before he knew it he was sinking past his thighs as he crept lower and lower into the muck. Past his waist, abdomen and enveloping his chest, Eric felt the cool mud encase his body as he struggled to free himself.
His arms sloshed and plopped around in the mud, it was unforgiving, strongly sucking him deeper into the pit. As his neck sank below the surface, Eric began to panic, he thrashed about as the muck crept up around his mouth. Eric coughed as he spit out the mud that invaded his mouth, instinctively craning his head back to keep his mouth above the surface to continue supplying him with precious air. Eric thrashed his arms, once more attempting to grab onto something solid to pull himself out, but he was too deep, his arms couldn’t even break out of the muck to touch the air. With one final plunge Eric sank beneath the mud, leaving nothing behind to prove he was ever on the trail in the first place.
