The Colonial region's unique nebula-studded interstellar geography is both it's biggest boon and curse. The limited number of safe hyperline routes through the proverbial "passes" between these impenetrable nebulas means its many riches have been undisturbed for eons and reliance on a handful of major thoroughfares means colonies along the Central Colonial Line see a lot of profitable thru traffic. However, these choke points are also prime hunting grounds for opportunistic pirates. Recently one particular fleet known as the Ram's Horn Freebooters has grown particularly bold, procuring gravity well ships and attacking hyperlane buoys to ambush passing freighters.
