The highly publicized atrocities committed by the Star Ember Mining Company on Amos II sparked a wave of philanthropy among the colonies. Making history in the largely oligarchic colonial society, The Nova Coalition grew out of a grassroots lobby for more humane treatment of Valbanian refugees, fleeing their own kingdom's infamous turmoil. To this day, the Coalition provides non-corporate humanitarian assistance to worlds all over the colonies, despite attempts by a minority to smear their seeming benevolence as Commonwealth sedition.
