After 8 years, 8 months, and 10 days of being a nameless, faceless lurker here, I have finally commissioned a reference sheet of myself. Behold! My fursona, brought to life thanks to Archie and the team at
MyFurryArt.com. If you like their art style and value great customer service, I would highly recommend them.
Raccoon (Procyon Lotor)
Etymology:
Algonquian/Powhatan - ärähkuněm (various other spellings), arocoun (early 1600s)
Meaning: “one that scratches with his hands”
To state my identifiers in order of importance to me (most to least), I am a:
* Single (and not seeking)
* Politically pragmatic
* Religiously agnostic
* Male
* East Asian
* Asexual
* Twenty-three year old
...living in Suburbia, California. The two handhelds shown in my ref sheet are my most prized professional and personal possessions. The agenda planner is a testament to my obsession with organization. The handled comb has been with me since I was little–I have been a compulsive scratcher since probably before I even uttered my first word. The story of my eczema and allergies is reflected in my fur markings.
Q&A:
Q: Why are you unveiling your fursona now?
A: A couple of reasons. One, I only recently obtained my first job, so now I have the income to commission artwork. (I consider myself aesthetically minded, but artistically challenged.) Two, I have other characters (one, and two & three) that I may commission ref sheets for, and I wanted my first one to be my personal fursona to avoid confusion.
Q: You posted this under the category “Fat Furs.” Did you just label yourself fat?
A: I guess? Well, two things. First, there is no category for “Chubby Furs,” so I am working with what I have. Second, “Fat Furs” is one of the two communities that I am interested in, so it made sense to introduce myself here, rather than in the “General Furry Art” section.
Q: Wait, then are you a gainer?
A: Not intentionally, no. It just so happens that I am really into having an exercise regimen, I am a casual foodie, I work seated in a cubicle almost all day, and my metabolism has naturally slowed down from my teenage years. Someday a catalyst will give me the willpower to lose some weight. …Hopefully.
Q: Do you roleplay?
A: Probably not. I will chat with you, but do not expect much fetish material out of me. Roleplay may be on the table with my other characters, since they are manifestations of my fetish ideals. Even then, though, I would be pretty selective with my roleplay scenarios and partners.
Q: Where do you see yourself in the furry community?
A: Still at the fringes. As I mentioned earlier, I have only two rather small communities that I care to associate with, which you can read about here and here. Plus, I do not really bring any skills to the table. I write story bits once in a blue moon, I am a decent proofreader, and I can provide constructive criticism. Basically everyone can do those three things. I hope to someday share my written works, once they are completed, but do not hold your breath for them.
In the meantime, feel free to strike up a conversation with me. The whole reason behind investing in a fursona was so that I would interact more with the community.
