Lately I've been playing around with drawing on larger paper, which opens up more space for me to work, so big scenes like this are actually something I can do. The larger surface opens up a few more technical issues with inking and color, and I'm trying to work those out on my stuff as well as tackle bigger sized commissions. For instance, filling in all these grays traditionally makes me rethink whether traditional is such a great route for big areas like that.
In this case, I really want the dragon to eventually have really lush color without being toned down by grays at all, and I wanted to fill in some grays to provide tone for the rest of the piece. I liked the grayscale enough by itself, and since I've never posted a WIP before, felt like trying that out, just in case the finished product doesn't wind up looking okay.
