No, I’m not talking about the classic comedy album by Cheech & Chong. This is another shot of my bamboo Kala U•BASS. This view shows off more of the gorgeous grain pattern in the top, sides, neck, and fretboard. As unique as a fingerprint are the occasional dark “blemishes” like the ones seen on the fretboard at the 8th and 14th frets and on the top, above and left of the thinner G-string.

Kala also makes bamboo ukes in soprano, concert, and tenor sizes. I have been waiting for my local music store to get one in so I can take it for a test drive.
Luna Guitars makes a bamboo dreadnought, although the few reviews on their site are not especially good.

Cool shot, good sir -- those strings look like power lines!
The total absence of binding or decoration really let the unique beauty of the bamboo to speak for itself; I can even see the spots in the cross sections at the edge of the top.
And, I love how all the pieces were shaped and fitted together to make the neck heel. Clever! :)
