Ovation used the name “Vintage Varnish” for the finish on this Applause Elite Bass. I just call it beautiful.
I wanted an acoustic bass that could put out some volume even when unplugged. I had confidence from my experience with other Ovations that this roundback would deliver. I am pleased with the choice I made. Plugged or unplugged, this bass sounds great and looks great.

That certainly is pretty; I like nice, rich browns on an acoustic guitar, and the satin finish compliments the warm shade.
My first thought when I saw this was: "ha--look at that: a twin to my old Tennessean!" I used to have a Gretsch Tennessean hollowbody from the 1960s that would originally have been a deep burgundy stain, but when I got it the red aniline that guitar makers used for red-stained finishes had faded out, leaving it a lovely shade of brown that this bass very closely resembles.
And, like your Ovation bass, my old Tenny had white binding on the top and fingerboard, but not on the back edge of the body. That and the colour resemblance reminded me of a nice guitar that I sometimes wish I'd kept.
Very nice shot here, and thanks for the memory jog! :)
