Going back through some of my pen sketches again, and this oldie was likely inspired off of some of the Renamon images that are actually in dA. I kind of liked Renamon from the Digimon series, mostly because she was a relatively uncomplicated, but well-designed character (that and generally if I wanted to draw her, her body type isn't so far flung from my stylizations of Mewtwo). Of course I took probably a few too many artistic liberties, but that's sort of what art is for.

My approach was pretty simple, after the pen sketch I scanned it, inked over it and colored at a whim. I struggle doing backlighting, but am surprised that this image held its own. Also tried the dreaded sunset beach theme that I am also not too terribly good at. Overall I'm happy with the colors, and the added bonus that this came out almost perfect wallpaper size prior to tweaking.
