On October 15, 2009, parents Richard and Mayumi Heene of Colorado reported to the police and other authorities that their son Falcon had stowed away on a UFO-shaped mylar balloon. Thus, setting into motion a news story that got worldwide attention... only for it to turn out to be a hoax (as Falcon was hiding in the attic of the Heene home, all along).
A few weeks later, to commemorate the infamous incident, I had drawn "Balloon Boy, Part 2?" - http://www.furaffinity.net/full/3015976/ - as 'Rob Cat' takes a joy ride atop an inflated 'Captain Furry', only to be the center of accusation by an off-panel member of the Heene family.
At the time, I'd used this illustration to promote the 2009 edition of the "Midwest Fur Fest" - in celebration of the furry con's tenth anniversary.
But now, as the "Balloon Boy" incident turns one year old today, I'd decided to post the image again. The only difference is, I had removed the advertising banner from around the lion's distended helium-filled belly - so that he can appear "au naturel" - while the bobcat attempts to enjoy his 'lion balloon' flight, in spite of the yelling down below...

If it weren't for the fact that I was promoting the "Midwest Fur Fest" last year, I would've dropped the banner, and posted this gag closer to Thanksgiving, when this 'lion balloon' could've drifted inconspicuously amongst the other floats in the annual parade!
Still, that IS one 'big cat', Gene!
