Heya its been a hot minute since my last upload haha... oof. But nothing bad happend. I'm just terribly lazy and have been mostly active in the background.
But I do have something new to share. An updated design for veronica, aswell as a more detailed background story for her.
Veras Childhood
Veronicas herself doesn't remember alot about her childhood. She mostly remembers being isolated by her parents, only able to stay shut in at home at all times. What infuriates her the most, when thinking back, is why it took her so long to take action. She always hated how much her parents restricted her and forced her to follow their rule. At the age of 18, she decided to take matters into her own hands, not wanting to follow any rules at all. But for her first step, she had to do something about her parents. She couldnt run away, knowing all too well if they caught her, she would be locked away for good. Veronica never felt a connection to her parents so the thought of straight up murdering them didnt feel off to her. All she wanted was to be free to do whatever she likes. When her parents tragically died to a chandelier falling ontop of them in the living room, Vera was surprised that she inherted everything from them. The manor, the robo butlers and the business they had. And nobody knew that everything happened because of her. It was one of the most thrilling experiences she had and most importantly, she was free to do whatever she wants.
"Freedom"
Being isolated for so long, Veronica had some difficulty understanding how the world worked. She read alot about the world but experiencing it for the first time revealed to her rather quick that not everything can be learned from books. After 2 years of figuring things out, she learned to live normally, for the most part. She learned to handled the business her parents had, which involved loansharking and the stockmarket. She adapted rather quickly and even enjoyed doing these things to a degree. Money wasn't a problem for her, but she still felt like something was missing. It would take another year when she would discover what was missing in her life.
She went shopping one day, and accidentally put something in her bag without paying for it. After she arrived home, Veronica found the item in her bag and realised she had just stole something. Rather than fear that she would be caught, she was excited she had gotten away with it. A feeling familiar to the one she had years ago. She decided to steal and steal again, a bit more each time. The thrill of getting away with illegal activities made her yearn for something new, something larger. But she had began to overdo it, and gain the suspicions of the authorities.
During her ventures into illegal activities, she discovered an underground gladiator pit, where she would recruit her two guards Esmeralda and Maximilian. That is a story for another time.
The monster within
One day, during a lull in her life, she decided to try her hand at kidnapping, with the intention of having a bit of fun later that night. She found her prey and silently followed them from the shadows. When she was ready to pounce on her victim, she was abruptly stopped by vigilantes. They were following behind her the entire time and felt if the law couldn't catch her, they could. They grabbed Veronica and pinned her, deciding what her fate should be. One of them suggested poisoning her with her own stinger, which the others agreed with. Veronica panicked, struggling hard to no avail as one of them grabbed her tail and jammed the stinger into her shoulder. Veronica could feel her poison going through her body, twisting and shaking around while the vigilantes watched in amusement. The fun was cut abruptly short however, as Veronicas body started to grow in size, her skin now covered in hardened chitin plates. Veronica went rabid and started thrashing around wildly, flailing her claws and grasping at everything in a blind rage. When she calmed down, the street looked like a bloodbath. The vigilantes were ripped to shreads. Veronica knew that something was wrong, and a quick look into the pond nearby confirmed it. She had turned into a huge monstrous version of herself. Veronica was shocked to see at what she had become. She managed to calm herself and thought of her options, deciding to quickly go back to her mansion while it was still late at night. When she arrived at her home, she started feeling weird and weak, and would end up collapsing at her doorstep. The next day, she woke up in her bed, covered in bandages. Her guards brought her back in and the robot butler took care of her. She noticed she wasn't transformed anymore but could feel a burning sensation throughout her whole body. While she was still debating on whether or not it was all a dream, the morning news report on the bloodbath confirmed it had happened. Vera breath a sigh of relieve when they mentioned that there were no witnesses.
Unraveling her parents mystery
Veronica managed to recover completely in a week, but she couldn't stop thinking about what had happened, and how it was possible. The only individuals who could have known was her parents, and it was far too late to ask them now. She decided to rumage through their notes, diarys and anything else she could find, in hopes it could give her a lead. Surprisingly, it didnt take long for her to find something. She found a log from a phonecall between her Father and an person going by the name Madeleine F. The log reveal her father being angry at Madeleine, and threatening to call the authorities on her for her unethical experiments if she doesnt leave the area in 24 hours. Madeleine was begging for more time, begging that she will give them the daughter they wished for.
That line alone was Veronica to come to a realisation, but she needed confirmation for her thesis. And for that she had to find Madeleine. A longer search revealed, that until his passing, Vera's father kept track of Madeleines whereabouts and from the looks of it, she hasn't changed location since he started keeping tabs on her. She seemed to be living in a forest quite far away, and Vera took of to meet her, leaving the manor in the hands of her guards.
After a long trip, she came to the location and discovered a rather rundown looking log cabin. Vera knocked on the door and, after a while, the door slowly opened. Veronica called inside, only managing to catch a glimpse of who she assumed to be Madeleine. A snake, who quickly screeched and slammed the door shut the moment she saw Veronica. Veronica, confused, knocked again, asking to speak to Madeleine. She was told to go away, before Veronica decided to be more assertive and speak through the door.
"Mr and Ms Avidias are dead, there is nothing to fear."
It was silent for a while, but then the door opened and the snake told Vera to come in. The snake looked like a nervous wreck, eyes darting around the room, almost as if she expected to be attacked at any moment. Vera knew she had to get Madeleine to trust her.
The past unravels
Vera tried her best to help the snake relax more around her, assuring her that her safety is her top priority. When the snake finally calmed down, she explained that her father always had people stationed around her for a long time, until about 8 years ago, when they suddenly stopped appearing. She never knew why and that unnerved her greatly. Vera grew impatient and disrupted her ramblings, and finally asked what was her parents wanted out of her.
Madelein was a scientist, specialized in genetical mutations that can enhance the body beyond standard capabilities. Vera's parents had great interest in Madelein's work and offered their own daughter, hoping to create a being they could use to gain power. Madelein got overwhelmed by their demands and was put under tight deadlines. In the end, Madeleine couldn't deliver and Vera's parents were furious. Instead of letting her finish her work, they chased her out of her lab and forced her to live in the woods, where she stayed in fear. The snake felt guilty for what she had done to Veronica, but Veronica wasn't interested in her sympathy or pity. Veronica was more interested in having Madeline finish what she started.
While the snake didn't want to cause anymore harm, she felt she was indebted to Veronica for what she had done, and wanted to put her skills to good use. Veronica offered the snake to stay at her mansion, being able to work however she wants and start improving on Vera's mutation abilities. After a bit of convincing, the snake agreed and started working to improve on Veronica, with the first improvement being a more stable version of her current mutation. This resulted in giving Veronica a carapace on her back, legs, arms and head. Veronica was very pleased with Madeleine's work and their work to improve the mutation continues to this day.
