RiffRaff: Street Rat or Rocky Horror Picture Show or...
well I guess I could have been named after a lot of things but ACTUALLY... funny story, I was huge fan of DIC animation back in the day (if you know of DIC, you know that they were once the lords of Saturday morning cartoons. and they were clobbering Hanna Barbara and Ruby/Spears combined for a few years.)
I loved the Heathcliff show but my fave character on it was RiffRaff, the leader of the Cadillac Cats in the city junkyard. He grew on me, he was tough, playful, had a hot girlfriend in leg warmers named "Cleo", voiced by Marilyn Lightstone, who was a big favorite voice of mine. Yeah, the scripts sucked but the show inspired me to write a whole novel about a kid named Riffraff and trying to stay out of foster homes and orphanages and just living his life. :D
And i was inspired more when I sent it to Andy Heyward, president of DIC Animation - and he LOVED it. I was only 20 and i had already gotten an animation giant to take notice of me! So we exchanged a few letters, I sent a few cartoon scripts and he would cheerfully reject them. But we kept in touch and that was awesome.
So...yeah, you never know what a single cartoon character can do.

The oldest of my OC's was inspired in part by the Catillac Cats. I started out doing fanart of its characters, and graduated to my own OC's after my highschool art teacher told me I'd win more accolades for making my own stuff than I would for drawing someone else's creation.
Coincidentally their earliest forms had what resembled Cleo's legwarmers as I was imitating the slouch-socks style of the 1980's but dead-ended them at the ankle since I didn't include footwear in their design.

When I read "RiffRaff" The first thing I thought of was this guy:

I forgot the RiffRaff you're referring to was Cleo's pimp-I mean boyfriend, but boy I had a thing for her back in the day - those legwarmers and that ruff of chest fur giving her a shapely profile...
