This is the oatherkeeper keyblade, a weapon from the popular game series Kingdom Hearts. I haven't carved wood before so this was sort of an experiment. As it appears, it is unfinished, but the layers of plywood look realy beautiful so I couldn't help taking a few snaps. Once the paint and keychain is done it's being sold to a mate.

Construction is as follows: two pieces of ply, sandwiching from 2 to 5 layers of carbon fibre in the center, epoxy resin as the adhesive. design was drawn by hand and a power file(miniature hand-held belt sander) was used to carve the wood free-hand. It's a little more bulky than in the game but is bloody strong so you can swing it around all you like, and it'll survive more than it's share of cosplay conventions.
