The Novi Avion (Serbian; "New Aircraft") was a Yugoslavian attempt to develop a 4th Generation Tactical Fighter to replace the JRV's aging Mig-21 Fishbeds.
It strongly resembled the Dassault Rafale, and this was no accident --- Dassault contributed a significant amount of actual Rafale technologies, including the engine, Fly-By-Wire, FCS, and aerodynamics R&D.
The Novi Avion was designed by the Vazduhoplovno Tehnicki Institut (VTI) ("Aeronautical Technical Institute"), and planned to fly for the first time in 1992. However, the collapse of Yugoslavia in 1991 and the beginning of the Yugoslav Wars effectively terminated the project.
As such, no functional Novi Avions were ever completed.
