Brown Ribbon Campaign...
Inspireed by 'Neer's journal:

Breast cancer isn't the leading killer. That's lung cancer (and affects non-smokers alike). Everybody loves breasts, and it's very easy to rally behind. Makes a good campaign. "Save the Tatas!" Prostate cancer is equally as deadly a killer, yet few rally, "SAVE THE ASSES!"!? Not pretty, but try living without a butt. Try it. Freakin' try it. =P Your butt does more than farting. It's the keystone of your body. Without a butt... you'd fall apart. You'd be nothing.
Cancer is a serious issue.
We shouldn't only be rallying behind ONE type of cancer, but working to fight them all. Susan G. Komen is a good cause, don't get me wrong, but cancer is a disease that kills without equal, and doesn't affect just breasts. I like boobs (HI, SCIGGLES!) but people only ever focus on breast cancer. That's it. Yes, it killed 39,840 last year year, and no, prostate cancer isn't glamorous or really marketable... but it took out 32,050 people last year all the same. Those aren't small numbers. Colon and rectal cancer is up there, too, with a kill count of 51,370 last year. Between prostate and colon cancer... well, the ass is a veritable battleground.
Eww.
So yeah, "Think of the asses!" is not a great campaign slogan. This journal's both serious and not, but in the end, cancer kills. It doesn't matter if it's your breast, back end, skin, lungs, brain. We should be fighting the disease, NOT one aspect of it.
What he said. ;)

As I recall, this started in a conversation about prostate cancer. I didn't comment, but it was pretty obvious that none of the guys in the conversation know where the prostate is located or much about it other than it can be a source of sexual stimulation. I know you're being humorous and you probably know that there is a colorectal cancer awareness month with its own ribbon, but others may not.
For readers not aware of this, last month (September) was Prostate Cancer Awareness month: http://pcaawareness.net/ The official "ribbon" is blue.
Many people don't know much about the prostate and where it's located (which, for those who do know your anatomy is where the "ass cancer" started. Anyone who paid attention in biology knows where it's really located) : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostate
For those of you who haven't encountered friends who are suffering with this, here's facts about the stages of prostate cancer. It metastasizes to the lymph nodes first and hits the seminal vessicles in the third stage. In late fourth stage, it can metastasize to the bladder and the rectum. Guys... get the blood test yearly if you're over 40, okay?

And March, by the way, is colorectal cancer awareness month. A good internet buddy of mine died of colorectal cancer back in March (a sad irony) -- he didn't go see the doctor for his bowel problems until he became very ill, and he had five years of misery and surgery (including colostomies) before his death. Go get the rectal scope exam done, too.:

And that's the end of your cancer lecture from someone who lost dear friends to treatable cancers. I hope the guys who read this will keep the dates in mind and help spread the awareness during the appropriate months.

I am agreeing so much with this. Too few people pay attention to the fact that there are so many more forms of cancer that all deserve equal attention and research. Perhaps when you bring it in a bit of a humorous way like this, it might get a bit more awareness.
And I love the shape of the ribbon, by the way
