I'm going to tell you this from personal experience. When my folks were both hit from behind in their car by a speeding driver, and were in the hospital (with my father's lower spine damaged) my manager's first question after my call with them was if I could finish my shift. And got a downright attitude when I told them "dude, I'm in shock about my parents being in a literal car accident."

I feel you. In my young adult years, I was once rear ended on my way to work. I wasn't injured beyond minor whiplash but my car was totaled. When I called to say I would not make it to my shift, my manager's response was "No, call a cab and be here."

I did not call a cab lol.

Sometimes people get buried by mistake, it happens!
