When in Rome, do as the Romans, as they say. But when not in Rome…don’t do as the Romans do. And I’m pretty sure the Romans didn’t do this.
While the simple black tea and milk will always be a staple for Dai, sometimes it’s nice to experience the traditions of another tea-obsessed nation. The Japanese practice of chado (cha – tea, and the suffix -do meaning “the way of”, rather like “judo” or “bushido”) is a complicated and detailed art form, with each ceremony personalised to the individual host, down to the cups used, the sweets provided, and the style of the kanji brushed onto the kakemono hanging in the room. Dai is just happy to be included, and to get an excuse to wear his yukata and obi. ^__^
