I have a theory on why Blaidd goes on a rampage at the end of Ranni's questline.
#1: Does anyone know about the Baleful Shadow that resides just beyond Nokstella? The very same entity that the Ranni Doll mentions after talking to her for awhile. I believe that is what the Empyreans must have meant by a "Failsafe" for anyone who diverges from their destined fate. And after slaying the Baleful Shadow, it's spirit somehow finds Blaidd and possesses him. Although without gaining full control over his mind and body. Instead, the Baleful Shadow suggests that anyone who approaches Ranni the Witch's Rise would be a threat to the very closest person that he considers as family. Which is why we see Blaidd attack the player's character.

This one may sound irrelevant, but I'll still throw this one out there too.
#2: I have heard rumors about Blaidd becoming aggressive while seeking him out in the Mistwood Derelict. It may be a bug, but my best running theory to that might be this. It's the scent of beast's blood that triggers his Bestial instinct, suggesting that you, the player, is considered a threat. And one must obtain a Celestial Dew to undo the sin. Although, for some reason that attacking the bears or the more nefarious Lesser Runebears within his vicinity will trigger his hostility for reasons unknown.
