Heh, know the pain. Way back when, I got stuck playing GM because the games I was in were so un-fun'ly unbalanced... either I got annihilated by bad dice rolls, or flattened the competition. Fast-Forward a few months, and having spent DOZENS of HOURS on a new campaign scenario, including stories, pages of writing, even a 'deployment' video, kids ripped thru it in maybe twenty minutes.
iDunno what why or how, but the game ended there. Haven't played since.

It's such a fine balancing act. I threw a frost giant at my level 4 party last week hoping it'd show them how scary The Wild was, since he could wipe any of them out with one turn.
The druid knocked him prone because I rolled like ass and they just surrounded his prone body and shanked him to death before he even got a turn. My lesson learned: add more giants

So very true.
Amusingly, when the dice DID work normal, a custom build of mine wiped out an entire scout lance in one turn. The heavy then retreated using jump jets into and then out of a ravine, their cavalry and heavy lances go charging across a nearby bridge only to find out the hard way, it was cluttered with FAScaM mines. An annoying little lance of light fire-support machines finished them off.
I was laughing my tail off it was so funny, but they didn't like that, so I was banned from using custom builds and special munitions.
Limited to stock machines, the usual nonsense ruined play, making it either impossible hard or mindlessly simple. At that point, I was banished to permanent GM.
And then came that stupid huge campaign I created... they lucky head-shot'ed most of the assault and heavy machines and then virtually took the scouts and medium 'mechs captive the fight was so easy. Nothing like randomly gaining an entire company of war machines as quote "salvage".
Mayor Joy: He's BLIND!
Sean: Well that didn't stop him from SHOOTING at us!
Mayor Joy: Well what's stopping YOU from shooting at HIM, TODD?!
Todd: I roughed him up pretty good...
Sean: ...you really didn't.
Todd: ...and with THAT thing I could KILL someone!
Mayor Joy: ....with any luck.
