EM Suits reinforce the wearer's own muscles, making them stronger and faster, as well as providing protection from shrapnel and most small arms. Shoulders, chest, stomach, and thighs have thicker "skin" to offer more protection. The shield generator only provides moderate protection for the head and torso; EM Suits are typically worn with additional semi-rigid plating and a much larger external shield system.

Even with additional armour, the EM Suit itself is still of the "light" designation, with the heavier variants having integral armour plating, thicker "skin," and often, larger integral shield batteries.
